Hundreds of people packed into a church in Germany on Friday for an experimental Lutheran service, which one attendee described as having “no heart and no soul.” What was special about the service?

The 40-minute service was created by Jonas Simmerlein, a theologian from the University of Vienna, who said 98% was written by ChatGPT. The avatar that delivered the speech was on a huge screen above the altar. People left the services with mixed feelings— some were surprised at how well it worked, while others were concerned by how human-like it felt and how that could be used to deceive.

This tech giant announced that it will soon release a text-based social network to compete with Twitter. They will allow users to follow accounts they already follow on Instagram, which the company owns.
