The Navajo Nation is the largest Native American tribe in the U.S., and is spread across the drought-affected southwest. The tribe has struggled to obtain water and filed a lawsuit 20 years ago asking for the federal government’s help, citing an 1868 treaty. However the majority opinion ruled the treaty doesn’t require the federal government to secure water for the tribe.

Long COVID is poorly understood, but millions of people have dealt with its chronic symptoms for months or years after initial infection. In a study of 1,100 overweight or obese participants, 6.3% of those who received metformin developed long COVID vs. 10.4% who received a placebo.

Last fall, NYC mayor Eric Adams implemented a a very controversial policy allowing involuntary hospitalization of mentally-ill homeless people if they seem unable to meet their basic needs. BronxWorks, an outreach agency in the Bronx, said initial results are encouraging—more people are stabilizing in hospitals and moving into permanent housing.
